Outreach Group

The OUTREACH GROUP was founded in April 2003 to be an umbrella group that coordinates the financial aspects of the many fund raising activities of our Parish Community and to publicise and respond to Justice and Peace issues, locally and further afield.

We meet every 4 to 6 weeks - usually on Thursdays, at 7.30.p.m. in the back room of the Parish Centre. The Group is open to everyone and our regular meetings are usually attended by representatives of the Parish Groups, including:

Barbara Gadsby and Eileen Beben Life
Mary Neville Co-Workers of Mother Theresa
Ann Barlow and Joan Winandy Tuesday Club
Jane McGrath Justice and Peace
Tony Seaston CAFOD  and SVP
Mary Topham Eucharistic Ministers
Noeleen McIntyre Catechists
John Rimmer Finance Committee
Barbara Hemsworth and Sally Rimmer Fair Trade
Madeleine Bridges Women on Wednesday

Funds raised for our designated Parish Charities over the past 2 years were

CAFOD £8397
Diocesan Sick and Retired Priests Fund £1351
BRINOS £1721

Last Autumn we began to help the work of the Derby Refugee Forum and this year we started to support the Happy Hens Project at Etwall.

Any appeals to the parish for help or funding are considered by the Group and allocations of money are recommended to the Parish Finance Committee. These are processed through the Outreach bank account thus guaranteeing security and accountability.

We are now a Fair Trade Parish, which uses Fair Trade Goods in the Parish Centre, holds a Fair Trade Stall every month and holds  Fair Trade events.

During Fair Trade Fortnight 2008, the Group organised a Fair Trade Hamper Raffle and stall. The pictures below show people in the Parish Centre meeting to have coffee and cakes after Sunday 10.00am Mass. £200 was raised for the Charity Arm of Traidcraft.

On Friday 7th March 2008, we coordinated the Annual Women's World Day of Prayer Service on behalf of the Churches Together in Mickleover. The celebration was held in our church with appropriate displays and information about Guyana, the country whose Christian women had written the prayer service. It was very well attended and we received many compliments on the liturgy and refreshments afterwards.
