Mickleover Churches Together Renewal of Covenant - Pentecost 2009

On May 31st, representatives from the five churches gathered together at Our Lady of Lourdes church to celebrate Pentecost Sunday and renew their commitment to working together towards Christian unity.  It is now 10 years since ‘Churches Together’ was established

They were blessed by a glorious sunny afternoon.  People relaxed in the warmth on the church lawns, chatting or taking advantage of the many entertaining activities.  It was good to see so many senior parishioners participating; some even took advantage of the face painting on offer. There were very generous, tasty contributions for the shared picnic and everyone enjoyed a delicious tea, with hot and cold drinks served in the hall.

The celebrations then moved inside Our Lady of Lourdes church. During the service, various members of all the parishes contributed to the well-planned service.  There were some symbolic offerings, singing, praying and reflections of the past 10 years, with thanksgiving  for the opportunity to worship together.  All present were given a stone as a symbol of the Lord breathing his spirit on those gathered together.   Everyone was then invited to sign a commitment for the next 5 years to work together towards Christian unity.

Pope John Paul 23rd must have smiled down on Mickleover, as he saw his wish of a united Christian church, making such big strides.
